Vote for Parish Council Members

Dear Down Ampney residents

This May brings an opportunity to vote, not only for a ward member of CDC, but also for your Parch Council members (7 in all) if more than 7 people come forward as nominees to join the committee.

It has been my privilege to be your PC chairman, since Mr Peter Sillett decided to stand down, overseeing the difficult and protracted negotiations between Sanctuary (Broadway Farm developers), CDC and ourselves. Similarly your PC has addressed the state of the playground and MUGA pitch whereby much was needed to be done to make it safe and usable.

Good relations have been cemented with GCC Highways and a large amount of money has been spent to repair pavements and roads.

It will be necessary to raise funds to replace the playground “soft play” ground which is likely to cost about £30,000. There is also a bucketful of wishes, again which come at a cost, one of which is obtaining a speed camera at about £12,000 and curbing the corners of the village green to ensure that it is not further damaged.

I am taking what I believe an unprecedented opportunity in recommending my fellow councillors for re-election should it be necessary. They have worked hard on your behalf to help improve our village life. My team is well balanced and representative of the village as a whole. Disregarding any political bias, I would like to take the opportunity of thanking Councillor David Fowles who, over the years, has taken DA to heart. Without his active and often un-thanked actions he has delivered much good to the village. Without his intervention the debacle of Broadway Farm would mean that we would have had a bad development which still may be the case should CDC not accept the changes offered. Also he fought hard to overturn the proposed new green waste policy with ultimate success.

It is with much regret that we say goodbye to Julie Job BEM who is retiring from the Council after over 25 years’ service. It remains for us to thank Julia for all her hard work for the benefit of our village together with her invaluable guidance to council members. I am sure that she will appreciate all the free time that she now has to spend it with David and her grandchildren.

It is necessary for our village to have a strong and resolute parish council committee together with a ward member that reacts and identifies with us.

Do, please, use your vote wisely.

Ray Jenkins
